KSCSTE-National Transportation Planning and Research Centre (NATPAC) is conducting various activities during Road Safety Month from 18th January to 17th February 2022. Due to the pandemic, events will be conducted through the online platform. The main aim of this event is to create Road Safety Awareness among School/College students and General Public.
BROAD THEMES
KSCSTE-NATPAC invites participation for various awareness activities under the following broad themes of Road Safety.
- Safety of Vulnerable Road Users
- Safe Roads and Road User Behaviour
- Teen and Young Age Driving
- Safety gears - seatbelt, helmet, booster seat
- Traffic violations
- Green Mobility:Public Transportation, Non-mtorised vehicle transport, water transport and electric vehicle
ROAD SAFETY CONTESTS
Road Safety contests are planned to be conducted among students in the school/college and the general public. There is no registration fee for participating in the contest. Details of the activities are given below:

EVALUATION
Road Safety Awareness activities will be screened/competed at three stages - Primary screening, Secondary screening and State level screening.
The interested students/general public can register in any activity by filling the Online Participation Form
Primary Screening: The school/college authorities will evaluate the activities of the students and forward the details of topper under each activity to the e-mail This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for secondary screening before 30.01.2022.
The school/college authorities will receive an e-mail with online registration form to upload pictures/documents of the activities performed by the topper under each category. The last date for uploading top entries from each School/College is 04.02.2022.
Secondary Screening: All the registered entries received from schools/colleges will be scrutinized and screened by the screening committee. Entries for State level screening/competition will be shortlisted at this stage. All shortlisted entries will be provided with certificate of appreciation.
State level screening: The shortlisted entries will be again screened and evaluated by the State level committee. Top three entries under each activity will be provided with prize and certificate which will be announced in the Valedictory Session on 17.02.2022.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR CARRYING OUT THE ACTIVITIES
General Instructions
- One participant can register in a maximum of five activities.
- All the shortlisted entries will be considered for promoting road safety awareness among specific road user target groups and general public by KSCSTE-NATPAC.
- All the School/College students shall participate in the activities under the guidance of Teacher/Faculty advisor who shall be nominated by the head of the institution.
- A guideline for each activity needs to be strictly adhered. If not, such entries will be disqualified.
- All the activities shall be related to road safety, but restricted to the broad themes of the activities.
1.Painting Competition
- Drawaing/painting must be in A4 or A3 size.
- Drawing/painting can be made with a pencil, crayon, watercolour, oil paint, etc.
- The name, age and address must be mentioned in the painting.
- Contest entries must be submitted in either JPG/PDF format with good quality.
- The file size should not exceed 7 MB.
- Computer generated image won't be acceptable.
2. Story Writing
- The story must be written in English/Malayalam.
- File format: file must be uploaded as a pdf/doc/jpg.
- Maximum word-limit:1000-1200 words.
- The story must have a title.
- The content should be mainly focused on themes.
- The story must be original and not published/awarded before.
3. Slogan Creation
- The number of slogans can vary from 1 to 3 per participant.
- Slogans must be written in English/Malayalam.
- Maximum word limit 10 -15 words.
4. Essay Writing
- Maximum word-limit: 1200-1500 words.
- Any practice of plagiarism will lead to disqualification
- The article must be hand-written /typed in English/Malayalam.
- The article needs to be submitted in pdf/doc/jpg format.
- There will be a restriction of one article per author.
5. Poem Writing
- Poems must be written in English/Malayalam.
- Any plagiarized work will be disqualified along with any other work submitted by the entrant.
- File format: file must be uploaded as a pdf/doc/jpg.
- Poems must not have been published/self-published/published on a website/broadcast/been selected for any other competition.
- The poems must have a title and in the range of 8-24 lines (excluding title).
6. Troll Creation
- Trolls can be either in English/Malayalam.
- The troll should carry a social message within the broad themes of Road Safety.
- The troll should not contain any personal criticism or abuse directed towards any specific person or institution.
- The troll should be the competitior's own creation and must not be a copied one.
- There should be an appropraite image quality.
7. Virtual Quiz
- You can attempt only once.
- There are a total of 15 questions.
- Each question carries one mark.
- No negative marking for wrong answers.
- Questions are of Multiple Choice.
- The quiz can be attempted only once
ABOUT SAFE SAVARI
Safe Savari is an online learning portal from NATPAC. This is the place to get road safety concepts right. NATPAC provides both classroom-based and digital content-based training programs for school children and the general public on Road Safety. Anyone can access road safety digital content anywhere, anytime by logging into the portal. These contents are also available through Safe Savari mobile application as well, which can be downloaded from Google Play Store. The road safety-related materials, training contents, and videos are also available in the portal.
All shortlisted entries will be published in the Safe Savari website (www.safesavari.com) of NATPAC and also used for the preparation of road safety materials by KSCSTE- NATPAC.

ORIGIN & GROWTH
National Transportation Planning and Research Centre (NATPAC) was originally established by the Government of Kerala in 1976 to set right the traffic and transportation problems faced in the State and was initially attached to KELTRON which was a leading Public Sector industrial establishment involved in electronics development. Within a few years of its establishment itself NATPAC became a house name throughout the country. In response to the covetable achievements and contributions made, NATPAC was converted as an autonomous research centre in the field of traffic and transportation and was brought under the umbrella of the Department of Science, Technology and Environment, Government of Kerala in 1982. In November 2002, Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE) was formed, with the objective of adopting an integrated approach to the research and development activities in Kerala. NATPAC is one of the Research Institutions of KSCSTE which is fully funded by Government of Kerala. The Governing Body of the State Council is headed by the Chief Minister of Kerala with Executive Vice President as the Chief Executive of the apex body.
The Centre has played a vital role in addressing issues such as traffic congestion, traffic safety, parking, impact of climate change on transport infrastructure, scarcity of pavement materials , etc., thereby catalyzing the Goverments's efforts to bring positive changes in the society. The Centre also imparts road safety training programs to various road users, engineers', enforcement agencies, hazardous goods drivers, etc. on a regular basis. The major thrust areas on which the research is focused are:
- Traffic Safety/Intelligent Transportation System
- Marginal/Alternate materials for Transport Infrastrucutre and
- Public Transport System and Logistics

- To promote a safe, reliable and integrated transport system for fair and effective movement of goods and people.
- To engage and collaborate with multi -disciplinary stakeholders to evolve sustainable and optimal solutions.
- To develop design strategies with state-of-the-art laboratories and technologies through research and practice.
- To explore and advocate intelligent technologies assisted with advanced computation and data analytics for smart mobility.
- To frame guidelines, policies and protocols for transportation needs and to deliver scientific advaice to the stakeholders.
- To establish a Centre of Excellence in the field of transportation engineering through research and development.
- To disseminate knowledge to user communities, practitioners and institutions for fostering the growth of transport sector.

ഗതാഗതത്തിന്റെ വിവിധമേഖലകളായ റോഡ്, റെയില്, ജലപാത, തുറമുഖങ്ങള്, വിമാനത്താവളങ്ങള് എന്നിവയിലെല്ലാം പ്രവര്ത്തിച്ചുവരുന്ന ഒരു ബഹുമുഖ സര്ക്കാര് സ്ഥാപനമാണ് നാറ്റ്്പാക്. സംസ്ഥാന ശാസ്ത്രസാങ്കേതിക പരിസ്ഥിതി കൗണ്സിലിന്റെ കീഴിലുള്ള പ്രസ്തുത സ്ഥാപനത്തിന്റെ ആസ്ഥാനം തിരുവനന്തപുരത്താണ.് ജലപാതകള്, ജലഗതാഗതം എന്നിവയില് തനതായ ഗവേഷണ വികസനപഠനങ്ങളും വിദഗ്ദ്ധ പഠനങ്ങളും ഏറ്റെടുത്തു നടത്തുന്ന ഭാരതത്തിലെ ഏക സ്ഥാപനം നാറ്റ്്പാക് ആണ്. കൂടാതെ റോഡ് സുരക്ഷാരംഗത്ത് ശാസ്ത്രീയമായ ഗവേഷണപഠനങ്ങള് നടത്തി ആവശ്യം വേണ്ട പ്രസിദ്ധീകരണങ്ങള് നിരന്തരമായി പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നു. റോഡു നിര്മ്മാണം, ആസൂത്രണം, സാമ്പത്തികം, സര്വ്വേ എന്നിങ്ങനെ എല്ലാ മേഖലകളിലും വൈദഗ്ധ്യമുളള ശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞരും, സാങ്കേതിക വിദഗ്ദ്ധരും ഇവിടെ പ്രവര്ത്തിച്ചു വരുന്നു. കേന്ദ്രത്തിന്റെ പ്രവര്ത്തനത്തെ ഏഴ് വിഭാഗങ്ങളിലായി വിന്യസിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. കൂടാതെ ഒരു പ്രാദേശിക കേന്ദ്രം കോഴിക്കോട് ജില്ലയിലും പ്രവര്ത്തിച്ച് വരുന്നു.
